Formative Assessment Tools for 21st Century Classrooms

How Formative Assessments can allow Teachers to Address the needs of Each Student in the Classroom:

This week I wanted to focus on just how critical formative assessment tools are for ensuring that we are providing the best learning experiences for our students.  Formative assessments provide teachers with a quick glimpse in the minds of our students.  When used correctly formative assessments can provide pivotal information on what concepts students are understanding and what they are not.  Not only can we analyze the data of an entire class to see if our instruction is matching up to the concepts we want our students to understand, but we can also dive a little deeper to have a better understanding of the individual needs of our students.

Google Forms: The Ultimate Formative Assessment for Google Classroom Teachers:

The video I provided here discusses why and how Google Forms is a great way to check for student understanding.  This video focuses on using Google Forms to direct the content of a lesson.

Scaffolding Student Lessons Using Google Forms:

A formative assessment is a great tool to check for student understanding on the material from last class, however it can also help guide our students through classwork in the middle of your lesson.  Take a listen to this video I want to discuss how and why you should use Google Forms to guide your students through your content and to make sure you are providing for the individual needs of your students.

Quizizz: Making a game out of your Assessment

Gamifying the classroom is a big topic of discussion in many  schools around the country.  I will dive into the topic of discussion in a later post, so check back when I talk about ClassCraft and turning my content into an ongoing interactive game.  One of the challenges that many teachers have faced with the integration of devices in the classroom is competing for the attention of our students.  Many innovative companies have seized an opportunity to blend digital gaming with classroom learning.  Quizizz is a great example of such a thing.  Take a look at this brief video which discusses how quizizz might be your next favorite formative assessment and review resource.

  1. There is a great deal of information that you provide in this post. I appreciate that you make the connections between what you are trying to accomplish as a teacher and the use of the formative assessments tools. Other educators will benefit from you sharing your experiences and your practice as an teacher.
